You will be able to install and update your Don't Starve DRM-free client by following these steps:
If purchased from Humble Bundle Store:
- On the Humble Store download page, choose your operating system and click on the "Download" button to download your Standalone installer.
- Install the Standalone and run the game; an updater window will pop-up asking for your game key.
- Enter your Don't Starve game key and click on "Next" to update the game to the latest version.
- Once updates are complete, click on "Run Game" to start Don't Starve.
If purchased from Steam, retrieve your Don't Starve installer (and game key) using the Don’t Starve DRM-free tool page:
- Visit https://accounts.klei.com/account/drmkeys and log in using your Steam account to retrieve your installer and your Don't Starve (or Reign of Giants / Shipwrecked) game key.
- Download the Win/Mac/Linux installer file for the game (or expansions) and complete the install process.
- Launch the game; an updater window will pop-up asking for your game key.
- Enter your Don't Starve (or expansion) game key and click on "Next" to update the game to the latest version.
- Once updates are complete, click on "Run Game" to play Don't Starve.
If your Don't Starve updater does not open-up whenever you run Don't Starve, you'll have to delete the "updater.json" file and reset your updater settings.
To Do that:
- Go into your Documents folder, you should find a folder in there named "Klei"
- In there will be another folder named "DoNotStarve", double-click that folder
- Within "DoNotStarve" will be a file called "updater.json"; Delete that file.
After that, the updater will pop up again for you next time you play the game. Just remember to input your game key in the updater and it should work for you.
