If you log in to Hot Lava on Steam after the Infantry and Mortabeast update, and you are not seeing your game progress after updating the game, here are a couple of steps you can try to resolve the issue.
1) Navigate to the Users\YOUR LOGIN\AppData\LocalLow\Klei Entertainment\Hot Lava\ folder, look for a profile folder here, it should be a string of numbers and letters (for example: 3E5GNU7F)
To find this folder, open up your Windows File Explorer, and navigate to this file path:
C:\Users\{Your Computer Username}\AppData\Locallow\Klei Entertainment\Hot Lava\
If you do have this folder skip to STEP 3 otherwise continue to STEP 2.
2) If you do not have an account folder in your \AppData\Locallow\Klei Entertainment\Hot Lava\ in STEP 1, you can sync your game on Steam to a separate branch and run the game to create the account folder.
Here is how to do that:
- Right click Hot Lava in your Steam game library and choose "Properties";
- In the window that opens up, select the "BETAS" tab;
- In the drop-down menu of the "BETAS" tab, select 'pre_steam_cloud_saves'
Once you have selected the 'pre_steam_cloud_saves' beta, wait for the update to finish and launch the game - this will create the account folder - and from there close the game.
Check to see that the account folder exists in \AppData\Locallow\Klei Entertainment\Hot Lava\. At this point you can change your branch back to the default game by reopening the BETAS menu and choosing “None” from the drop down menu.
3) Once you find the numbered/lettered profile folder (for example: 3E5GNU7F) in the \Klei Entertainment\Hot Lava\ folders as listed above, you will need to copy that folder and paste it into your steamapps\common folder for Hot Lava. Here's how to do that:
Open up a new File Explorer on your desktop, and navigate to the following file path: You should see a numbered profile folder in the saves directory.
\Steam\steamapps\common\Hot Lava\archive\build\saves\#############\
Open up the numbered folder and paste the account folder from steps 1 and 2 in there, launch the game, and you should see your original progress as a profile.
